Online Resources @ CLC

The John C. Murphy Memorial Library subscribes to several online resources in order to provide free access to current students and staff. Our online resource collection includes databases of articles (many of which offer full text version of the entire article to be read online), image repositories, reports, and electronic books. Many of these online databases are available from home. You will need a valid CLC ID number to access them (current Student, Faculty, or Staff members only).

Academic Search Premier The world’s largest academic multi-disciplinary database, Academic Search Premier provides full text for more than 4,600 scholarly publications, including full text for more than 3,500 peer-reviewed journals. Coverage spans virtually every area of academic study and offers information dating as far back as 1975. This database is updated on a daily basis via EBSCOhost. AnthroSource "the premier online resource serving the research, teaching, and professional needs of anthropologists. Developed by the American Anthropological Association (AAA), AnthroSource brings 100 years of anthropological material online to scholars and the public, including: the current issues for 15 of the AAA's most critical peer-reviewed publications through the end of 2006, including American Anthropologist, American Ethnologist, Anthropology and Education Quarterly, and Medical Anthropology Quarterly; and an electronic archive of all AAA journals." Chicago Tribune Complete full-text content of local and regional news, including community events, schools, politics, government policies, cultural activities, local companies, state industries, and people in the community. Paid advertisements are excluded. Available from home News
Chicago Tribune Hist. The Chicago Tribune (1890-1984) offers full page and article images with searchable full text back to the first issue. The collection includes digital reproductions providing access to every page from every available issue. Available from home Historical News
The Chronicle of Higher Education The Chronicle is published every weekday providing news, advice, and jobs for people in academe. The Chronicle's Web site features the complete contents of the latest issue; daily news and advice columns; thousands of current job listings; articles published since September 1989; discussion forums; and career-building tools such as an online CV's, salary databases, and more. CINAHL CINAHL provides indexing for over 1,835 journals from the fields of nursing and allied health. The database contains more than 1,000,000 records dating back to 1982. Available from home Nursing and Medicine
College Source College Catalogs in complete cover-to-cover, original page format. Access to this database is currently only available at on campus only. Available at on campus only Multiple Subject Areas
CQ Researcher The award-winning The CQ Researcher explores a single "hot" issue in the news in depth each week. Topics range from social and teen issues to environment, health, education and science and technology. There are 44 reports produced each year including four expanded reports. The CQ Researcher web site offers online access to issues dating back to October 25, 1991. PDF files are available for full issues dating back to January 1996; for issues published since January 2001, PDF files are in color. Available from home News, Social Science
Criminal Justice A comprehensive collection of U.S. and international criminal justice journals including information for professionals in law enforcement, corrections administration, drug enforcement, rehabilitation, family law, and industrial security. Available from home Social Science
EBSCO A collection of databases providing abstracts and full-text documents from key journals in specialized topic areas including biological sciences, economics, communications, computer sciences, engineering, language and linguistics, arts and literature, medical sciences and women's studies. FirstSearch A collection of databases which includes abstracts and some full-text documents covering general topic areas, business, education and literature. Available from home Multiple Subject Areas
Gale Literature Resource Literature Resource Center lets users explore biographical and critical information, historical context, social implications and much more - all in a single search query. In addition to biographical, bibliographical and contextual information from the Contemporary Authors and Dictionary of Literary Biography databases, students and researchers can access full-text criticism from the Contemporary Literary Criticism Select database. Harper's Weekly Harper's Weekly, the 19th century Journal of Civilization contains editorials, news stories, illustrations, cartoons and advertisements from this era. Access to this database is currently only available at on campus only. Available at on campus only Social Science
Health Source Nursing/Academic Information on many medical disciplines including consumer reports on health and men’s health, general health, nutrition, and professional health care publications. The USP DI Volume II, Advice for the Patient module provides patient-oriented drug information in lay language. Available from home Nursing and Medicine
Hoover's Online Hoover's Online is a database of business information containing 12 million companies, with in-depth coverage of 40,000 of the world's top business enterprises. Access to this database is currently only available at on campus only. Available from home Business
IICLE Smart Books Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education - Practice guidance for Illinois lawyers. Available from home Law
JSTOR Arts and Sciences collection The JSTOR archive holds the complete digitized back runs of core scholarly journals, starting with the very first issues, some dating as far back as the 1600s. New titles and disciplines are being added regularly. Issues of journals are never “out”; they are always accessible, and in excellent condition. The capacity for searching across disciplines opens up vast possibilities for scholarship and research. Available from home History, Humanities, Mathematics, Social Sciences
Lexis-Nexis, Academic Need information on a supreme court case or a state high court case? This database offers both, as well as law reviews, state laws, bill text and tracking services, congressional records, and voting reports, and profiles of Members of Congress. Available from home News
Medline All areas of medicine, including dentistry and nursing. Available from home Nursing and Medicine
Mas Ultra School Edition Designed specifically for high school libraries, this database provides full text nearly 600 popular general interest and current events publications with information dating back as far as 1975 for key magazines. MAS Ultra – School Edition also provides more than 500 full text pamphlets, 268 full text reference books, 82,968 biographies, 90,915 primary source documents, and an Image Collection of 107,135 photos, maps and flags. MLA International Bibliography MLA International Bibliography is a bibliography of journal articles, books and dissertations. Oxford English Dictionary The Oxford English Dictionary is the accepted authority on the evolution of the English language over the last millennium. The OED covers words from across the English-speaking world, from North America to South Africa, from Australia and New Zealand to the Caribbean. It also offers etymological analysis, listings of variant spellings, and shows pronunciation using the International Phonetic Alphabet. Available from home Humanities

Professional Development Collection Designed for professional educators, this database provides a highly specialized collection of more than 550 high quality education journals, including more than 350 peer-reviewed titles. This database also contains more than 200 educational reports. Professional Development Collection is the most comprehensive collection of full text education journals in the world.
