Technology Lending
Please visit our Technology Lending page for more information about borrowing a laptop, iPod, Kindle, headphones, or other devices.

Wireless (WiFi) Internet Connection
The libraries at all three campuses are WiFi hotspots for Internet access through the CLC wireless network, Lancernet. Select "Lancernet" from the list of available networks if your device does not automatically connect. If you are using Windows XP or Vista, your computer will automatically detect the SSID Lancernet.

Off-Campus Access
Many of the library's online resources are available from home. You will need a valid CLC ID number to access them (current Student, Faculty, or Staff members only at this time). To see a list of resources available from home visit the Online Resources page. Please visit the F.A.Q page if you have trouble accessing these resources remotely.

Visitors' computer access
Residents of Lake County may use the library computer labs during normal business hours. A current Illinois Driver's license is required to receive a resident login and password which is good for 1 day. Residents who wish to print while they are here can also purchase a print card for $1.00 which places 50 cents into their print account (the card costs 50 cents and is refillable). More money can be added by dollar increments. Wireless Internet access is available to residents. Select "Lancernet" from the available network list to connect.

Library Computer Labs
Looking to do some research, surf the web, or type a paper? There are two computer labs housed within the John C. Murphy Library on the Grayslake campus. Grayslake Campus Reference Library Lab
The reference lab is located on the second floor of the library in the reference area. All of our computers have Microsoft Office products available, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint. The reference lab computers are conveniently located near the reference desk, so that you are able to request research assistance from a librarian.

Grayslake Campus General Library Lab
The general library lab at Grayslake is located on the first floor of the library near the Writing Center, Math Tutoring, and Testing. These computers are equipped with Microsoft Office products as well as many other special programs. This lab contains additional specialized equipment not found on the second floor such as scanners, screen readers, & Mac computers. If you are doing research or have a question about where to find information for your paper you should use the Reference Lab instead. There are other computer labs outside of the library that are available to users at all three compuses. Open labs include:
  • Grayslake: Room T221
  • Lakeshore: Room 1NG 016
  • Southlake: Room V220

Equipment for Users with Special Needs
We currently have two workstations for students with special needs in the Reference Lab on the second floor of the Grayslake library. The desks provide clearance for a wheelchair. The computers at each special needs workstation have the same software installed on them as the computers in the rest of the lab as well as access to all the same databases and other resources.

Additional equipment such as document magnifiers, large monitors and special software are availble in the lab on the first floor of the library. Please see the Office for Students with Disabilities for more information on this specialized equipment.

Equipment for Viewing Audio Visual Materials in the Library
VHS and DVD players are available in the library for students who wish to watch a video. Headphones, which can be used in AV equipment or computers, are available for check-out upon request. Please speak with library staff for assistance.

Microfilm and Microfiche Reader
There is one machine available in the basement of the Grayslake campus library. There is also a printer attached to the machine if you need to print something out. You can also scan microfilm and fiche into the attached computer and save it as a PDF document or image file which can be saved to a disk. If you need help using these materials please notify library staff.
